I was sitting in peak hour watching the usual mix of patience and aggression from Australian drivers and it dawned on me that choice was a fundamental factor in road behaviour.  And then over the past few months it has kept appearing in discussion  and behaviour.  Actually it has come up so many times I am beginning to see it at the heart of a great deal of life’s day to day challenges.

I can still vividly recall my teenage years... my family and mates most clearly... snippets of the surfing trips, the parties and the girls. And in the years since then I have known many men at various stages of life; with children, married recently, married 20yrs ago and many middle age and older. I’ve travelled across the world with a few and across the country with many. Of all these men I know only a few that I could say without a doubt would always be 100% faithful.

An interesting article on choice, career, potential and our self imposed limitations....

Expect quite a few more "manifestos" from this site.  Some really interesting and thought provoking short reading.

Make sure you open the actual manifesto and not just the intro text.

Love is a choice PDF Print E-mail

Another one dredged from long forgotten conclusions in my mind...... it took quite a while for my wife to come around to my thinking on this one... and to most of you this initial statement is probably going to be a little left field. Who you love and staying in love is a choice you make each day.

Not really ground breaking.... but a jasosophy all the same... I can’t find the origin, but my version; “If you want to be great, surround yourself with great people”. I think it’s an important realisation not often made.

An interest in meditation PDF Print E-mail

I have been interested in ‘Eastern’ religion, culture and mythology for most of my life now.  Thinking back I actually have no idea where the interest came from and when it began, over the past 10yrs or so the interest has slowly rested around thoughts and practices I have recently learnt are all Buddhist in origin.

This post will capture my journey in discovering meditation and in doing so my discovery of Buddhism and all the side bars which go along with what may end up being a fundamental change in my world view.

My goal is to be content.  To understand and minimise the negatives life seems to dish out.

Business vs Individuals PDF Print E-mail

After years of working under disappointing managers (not all), striving for balance between people and good business; I wonder if I, like those before me, favour success over the individual.  In some shape this leads on from “Your Employer is not your friend”.

I don’t pretend to know everything.. but I do believe I know some things.   So when is the right time to turn off the learning tap and be confident that your own ability, perceptions, decisions and most importantly values are actually the right ones?

When is a negative comment an interpretation of yours or.. just that, a negative comment? PDF Print E-mail

It has occurred to me on a few occasions lately that there is a difference between someone making a comment which IS ACTUALLY a judgement or negative assumption about you or what you’re doing etc. Compared to when someone makes a comment which you react to because of your own fears, self-doubt or previous hard knocks etc.
